Hello
My name is Chris Taylor, and I’ve spent my life learning to communicate with animals. I started young—working with parrots taught me how to read subtle body language, build trust, and train with patience and clarity. Those early lessons laid the foundation for a lifelong journey that eventually led me to the world of dog training.
For 20 years, I was a hobbyist trainer, driven by a deep passion for understanding dogs and their behavior. For the past 14 years, I’ve worked as a professional dog trainer, constantly refining my craft and learning from every dog I train. My late Doberman, Ares, was not just my demo dog but also my constant companion and competition partner. Together, we competed in sports like PSA (Protection Sports Association) and IPO (now known as IGP), earning titles while also exploring and studying various training styles to build a well-rounded foundation. I’ve attended numerous seminars with some of the best trainers in the world, and I believe that true mastery comes from always staying open to learning.
My Philosophy
Dog training, to me, is about giving dogs purpose and direction while helping owners build trust and understanding. Every dog has a unique personality, motivation, and set of challenges. My focus is always on creating a strong foundation of communication and confidence—because when a dog has purpose and structure, they thrive.
After running a successful training facility in Colorado, I moved to East Texas to start Texas K9 Companions, where I specialize in everything from puppy foundations and off-leash reliability to advanced obedience and complex behavioral rehabilitation.
My Mission
A portion of all training programs at Texas K9 Companions goes toward providing free or low-cost training for veterans and their dogs—helping those who have served find healing, confidence, and connection through training.
My ultimate goal is to create a veterans’ retreat—a place centered on peace, solitude, and purpose, where both veterans and their dogs can rehabilitate, grow, and rediscover true companionship.
